Though Selenis Leyva made better known today as motherly inmate, Gloria Mendoza on the hitNetflix series,Orange is the New Black, she’s more used to acting on the other side of the prison bars. Selenis played the detective Mariluz Rivera onLaw & Order beginning in 1999, and stayed with the show until the series wrapped in 2010. Sam Waterston may not have been a member of the original cast of the series, but after he joined Law & Order in 1994, he became a series mainstay, anchoring the show as the Executive Assistant District Attorney until the show’s finale in 2010. Following his 16 year run on Law & Order, he has appeared as the newsroom director Charlie Skinner in the Aaron Sorkin drama, The Newsroom, and is currently starring in the Netflix show Grace And Frankie alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

She began herLaw & Orderjourney in 1996, when she first began appearing as Assistant District Attorney Jamie Ross, a role she continued to play for 5 years, until her departure in 2001. Jesse L. Martin joined the cast of Law & Order as Ed Green in 1999, and quickly became Jerry Orbach’s main investigative partner. Martin continued playing Green for a full 10 years, only leaving the show in 2009, a year before the series wrapped.While Martin may have gotten his start in the hit Broadway showRENT in 1996,Law & Order made him a bonafide television star. S. Epatha Merkerson as Anita Van Buren is the single most featured actor onLaw & Order. Steven Hill – Adam Schiff

Another Law & Orderoriginal cast member, Steven Hill first began acting on television as long ago as 1949. Joining the cast of Law & Order when it first went into production, he played District Attorney Adam Schiff until his retirement from the screen in 2000, after 10 years on the show. Producers cast Hill because as a veteran television actor, he added prestige to the new series, and they often took his suggestions on the direction his character should be taking. Hill passed away in 2016 at the age of 94.

Leslie Hendrix – Dr. Elizabeth Rogers

Leslie Hendrix was one of the first females to be cast in a featured role onLaw & Order, joining the cast as Dr. Elizabeth Rogers in 1992. Seasoned British actress Harriet Walter played the detective inspector Natalie Chandler for the first four seasons of Law & Order: UK. Amazingly, she became a Dame in 2011 for her services to British drama. Another one of her biggest acting honors came in 2015 when she made a memorable cameo as Chewbacca’s nurse in the space opera blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
