Gentle Tooth Extraction Gulch Dental Studio in Downtown Nashville
Impacted wisdom teeth aren't the only reason people need a tooth extraction. Trauma, decay, and root canal infections can all lead to complications that make saving the tooth impossible. We understand that the thought of losing a tooth is upsetting. We help our patients through the process starting with our gentle techniques for tooth extraction, a step that typically does not require an oral surgeon.
Evaluating the Tooth
Our dentists will first determine if the tooth can be saved. We consider teeth a valuable, limited resource so we go to great lengths to save each one. We will recommend removal only when the tooth can't be saved.
Gentle Extraction
The dentists at our Nashville dental studio know just what steps to take to make extraction as comfortable as possible. We also offer sedation options to diminish patient anxiety about the procedure.
Beautiful Restoration
Smiles are closely tied to health and happiness. When you're ready to replace your missing tooth, the dentists at Gulch Dental Studio can restore function and beauty to your smile using the latest and most advanced techniques.
Can I Put Off a Tooth Extraction? Call for a Consultation
In most cases, it's not wise to put off needed tooth extraction. If your teeth have extensive decay or if gum disease has loosened teeth, you are at greater risk of introducing infections to other parts of your mouth. The sooner you act, the sooner you can restore your dental health and get on the path to recovery.
If you have swelling in the gums, tooth pain, or other signs of infection, request a consultation. Our dentists at Gulch Dental Studio in Nashville, TN, will carefully examine your mouth to determine if an extraction is necessary.
Early intervention can prevent a simple extraction from ballooning into extensive dental problems. We can perform tooth extractions of permanent teeth and wisdom teeth as well, without resorting to an expensive trip to an oral surgeon.

I've been a patient at Gulch Dental Studio for a couple years now, and I've been extremely happy with the service I've received. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating, and the hygienist that does my cleaning is very thorough yet efficient. My appointments have always run on-time as well, which is important for me since I'm usually taking time away from work. I also recently had an old filling replaced and I was very impressed with Dr Harris. He was incredibly fast and made me feel as comfortable throughout the process. I've been so pleased as a patient here, and I couldn't imagine a reason to go anywhere else.
I visit Dr. Harris and the team at Gulch Dental Studio for my Botox appointments, and I always look forward to coming in. The office is GORGEOUS and so relaxing. The whole team is always kind and accommodating. Dr. Harris always takes time to make sure my concerns and preferences are heard before he gets started, and he never fails to make me laugh! Last but certainly not least, I'm always SO pleased with the results. It's nice to look in the mirror and not have to obsess about wrinkles or lines. And he has a gift for making it look really natural and not overdone. If you're considering trying Botox for the first time, go see Dr. Harris and the team at Gulch Dental Studio. They'll take such great care of you!

Do I Need a Tooth Extraction?
Reasons our dentists may recommend tooth extraction:
- A tooth has suffered decay so extensive it cannot be repaired with a filling or crown
- A crack or fracture, especially below the gums, has compromised the tooth
- Gum disease has caused a tooth to become loose
- A dental abscess in the root of a tooth cannot be treated with root canal therapy
- A tooth, such as a wisdom tooth, lacks space in the jaw
- A tooth prone to infection puts the health of a person with a compromised immune system at risk
Tooth Extraction Timeline Using Gentle Dentistry
We'll take the time to get to know you so we can address all your concerns.
We'll take the time to get to know you so we can address all your concerns.
Consultation
Our dentists will first make absolutely sure that a tooth cannot be saved before recommending extraction. We may use x-rays or advanced imaging to confirm the diagnosis.
Local Anesthetic
The dentist will administer a local anesthetic and, if desired, sedation so that you can be comfortable throughout the procedure.
Gentle Removal
Next, our dentist will gently loosen the tooth so it can be carefully removed. If bone is trapping the tooth, an incision will be made to free the tooth. Sometimes it is necessary to break the tooth into smaller pieces for easier removal.
Socket Preservation
We may recommend preserving bone density in the area where the tooth was removed. To do this, the dentists will place bone grafting material in the socket. This is an important step if you plan on using a dental implant to replace the tooth later.
Closing Steps
If necessary, the dentist will suture the site closed. You will then be asked to gently bite down on a sterile gauze for about 30 minutes. The gauze will help slow bleeding and encourage a blood clot to form in the socket. The clot protects the bone during healing.

I have nothing but good things to say about Gulch Dental Studio! Such a gorgeous office with top of the line tools (I think lol). I had a filling done here and was very nervous, but Dr. Harris and his dental assistant Corey took the time to talk me through everything and made sure I was comfortable. 10/10 would recommend!
highly recommend their service. They are extremely nice and explain everything to you. I have a dental phobia and they were very accommodating. I live far from the office but let me tell you worth the drive. I have had check-Ups, teeth cleaning and today a root canal that another dentist ruined my tooth. I am very grateful for all they did to make me feel comfortable and well taken care off. They were both very professional, kind and understanding.
Recovery
Most people can return to their normal activities in a few days and will completely recover within two weeks. Our dentists will give you a full explanation of steps to take during recovery, but in general:
Manage Discomfort
Discomfort after an extraction is typically minimal and can usually be managed with prescription medications or over-the-counter pain relievers.
Reduce Swelling
Some swelling is normal. Applying a cold compress to your face near the jaw every 20 minutes for the first 24 hours typically helps.
Avoid Strenuous Activity
For the first two days after an extraction, you should avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting, which can increase bleeding and swelling.
Eat Soft Foods
Eat soft foods to avoid disturbing the extraction site and do not drink with a straw, which could dislodge the blood clot and cause considerable pain.
